Now Philippians 4:15. Now the Philippian letter if you’ve read it you know that there are many words being used for koinonia in here. Those who have been taught and heard the message on giving and sharing and jointly participating know that this whole book revolves around offerings that were brought to Paul over the coarse of eleven years while he was in jail.
Pastor Melissa Scott tells us that they brought the offerings. In fact you read in verse 18, Epaphroditus bringing the offering to Paul. But the verse I want to look at is the 15th verse that says “Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated,” ekoinonasin a verb, money, “with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.”
Now I know it’s hard. It’s even hard for me because we don’t teach people here ‘give to get’ but a right response to the teaching takes you to Galatians 6. Galatians 6 is very simply, Galatians 6:6 “Let him who is taught in the word communicate,” your King James Bible says, “Let him that is taught in the word communicate.” “Well thank you very much for the teaching.” “You’re welcome.” Koinonian it’s a verb, it’s an action. Now all of that to the old-timers here that’s old hat. You know when you hear people talking about sowing a seed or giving God’s way you can look to the Scriptures and you can probably recite these passages. I will at least say if someone’s going to pervert or corrupt or take text out of context take Galatians 6. Let him who’s taught in the Word of God right out of the Bible. I need to say that because the Word can be many things to many people, like a blackboard may not really be black but white. The Word of God and this is what’s so tragic. If you understand the principles of true Christianity, giving is as intrinsic to the Christian.
