A Beginning Bible Study taught by Pastor Melissa Scott

Pastor Melissa Scott tells us that she teaches out of the bible, “I teach out of the Bible”. Tonight will be no different, but my approach will be a little bit unusual. I asked how many people are here for the first time, and I seldom do that. I want everybody to feel comfortable, I don’t want you to feel like you’re being eyeballed or looked at strangely. Are you a first-timer here? Do you belong here? If there could be a new sign over the door, it would say “Everyone’s welcome here!” The badge for coming in this door is: We are all sinners being saved by grace.

There’s nobody here that’s sitting in judgment, deciding on whether you should or shouldn’t be here. We all need God. If you are here with troubles and a guilty conscience, if you’re here with things that are plaguing your spirit, this is the place to hear, to listen, and to understand. The Cross of Jesus Christ is not just for some super elite group of people. There is plenty of room atthe foot of the Cross for you to bring everything and leave it there.

I really want this church to become a place where people can set aside what they have previously carried with them: baggage, guilt, traditions. A place where people can come out and simply learn God’s Word without feeling like they’re going to be “indoctrinated.” There’s only one way to grow, and that is by studying His Word. Now, I thought I’d ask the question to begin with because it’s a good question: Is there anybody here that would like to learn what the Bible says? Show me your hands because that’s all I have to offer you. I’ve said this many times before, and I’ll say it again, I don’t have anything I want to sell you tonight. In fact, some of you are probably thinking, “I came to be lifted up.” I intend to lift you up with God’s Word. I don’t have any other tools, I don’t dispense pills, I don’t have anything else to give you – just God’s Word.
